Japan's blood donation reference ranges are statistical values calculated from the test results of blood donors, provided by the Japanese Red Cross Society, and do not by themselves indicate a normal or abnormal condition.

How to Read Your Japanese Blood Donation Test Results

In Japan, blood donors receive a report with 15 test results (7 blood chemistry + 8 blood cell count items). This page explains what each item means and lets you check your results in English, using Japan's official reference ranges from the Japanese Red Cross Society.

What Are the 15 Items in a Japanese Blood Donation Report?

Blood Chemistry (7 items)

ItemJRC Reference RangeWhat It Shows

γ-GTP (Gamma-GTP / GGT)9–68 IU/LLiver & bile duct function
総コレステロール (Total Cholesterol)140–259 mg/dLLipids
総蛋白(TP) (Total Protein)6.6–8.2 g/dLNutritional status / liver function
アルブミン(ALB) (Albumin)4.0–5.1 g/dLNutritional status / liver function

Blood Cell Count (8 items)

Female 11.0–14.8 g/dL
Anemia
赤血球数(RBC) (Red Blood Cell Count)Male 4.18–5.60 million/μL
Female 3.84–5.04 million/μL
Anemia
ヘマトクリット(Ht) (Hematocrit)Male 38.8–50.0%
Female 34.6–44.6%
Blood concentration
白血球数(WBC) (White Blood Cell Count)3,800–8,900/μLImmunity / inflammation
血小板数(PLT) (Platelet Count)170,000–365,000/μLBlood clotting
MCV (Mean Corpuscular Volume)83.0–99.5 fLRed blood cell size
MCH (Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin)26.8–33.5 pgHemoglobin content per cell
MCHC (Mean Corpuscular Hemoglobin Concentration)31.7–35.2%Hemoglobin concentration

These reference ranges are statistical values calculated from the test results of blood donors, and do not by themselves indicate a normal or abnormal condition (Japanese Red Cross Society).

For ALT, γ-GTP (GGT), Total Cholesterol, Glycoalbumin, and Hemoglobin, this tool's judgment uses reference ranges commonly used in general health checkups and academic society guidelines, which may differ slightly from the JRC ranges shown above.

Are Triglycerides or Uric Acid Included?

No. Triglycerides and uric acid are not among the 15 items reported after blood donation in Japan. For lipids, only Total Cholesterol is reported — LDL, HDL, and triglycerides are not. AST, HbA1c, and kidney function (creatinine, eGFR) are not reported either.

These can be checked through a regular health checkup or "ningen dock" blood test. If you have health checkup results, you can check triglycerides, uric acid, AST, HbA1c, and eGFR with our Health Checkup Checker.
